The egg that broke Instagram is making waves once again after its first appearance on television. During the Super Bowl, Hulu users were pleasantly surprised by a commercial with the now-famous figure. This commercial states the egg is “starting to crack,” and spreads a positive message about mental health (Huffington Post).

The commercial begins with a picture of the egg. “Hi, I’m’ the world_record_egg (you may have heard of me),” says the egg. “Recently I’ve started to crack, the pressure of social media is getting to me. If you’re struggling too, talk to someone. We got this.” The commercial then cuts to a frame with Mental Health America’s website and “egg gang” on a blank white background.

The egg, also known as Eugene, became incredibly popular after becoming the most liked post on Instagram with over 50 million likes and counting. Chris Godfrey, creator of the Instagram account, created Eugene because it “has no gender, race, or religion. An egg is an egg, it’s universal” (New York Times).

Godfrey has expressed his hope that the egg will continue spreading positivity to its fans. There will be other causes Eugene will support in the future, though no one is quite sure which ones. The egg team plans to “take each day as it comes.” All the attention that the egg has gotten may not last forever, but the time it still has will be used for good and charitable causes (The Fortune).
