  • Stuart Scott, longtime sports anchor with ESPN and a graduate of UNC, died at 49.
  • He started at ESPN in 1993 when the network released ESPN2.
  • He was a regular anchor on Sportscenter.
  • Scott also reported on many major sporting events, including the NBA Finals, the MLB World Series, the NCAA Final Four and the Super Bowl.
  • In 2002, while covering the New York Jets mini-camp, he was struck with a ball in the face; this caused him to have eye damage for the rest of his life.
  • Scott did one-on-one interviews with many athletes such as Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant and other famous non-athletes such as Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
  • He had many guest appearances in movies and television shows such as Drumline, Herbie: Fully Loaded, The Longest Yard (2005), and Enchanted.
  • Scott learned he had cancer of the appendix in 2007 following a Monday night football game.
  • He received the Jimmy V award for Perseverance at the 2014 ESPY Awards.
  • Many people released statements and posted tweets in mourning of Stuart including, Lebron James, Barack Obama, Lil Wayne, Kevin Hart, Lance Armstrong and even his co-workers Hannah Storm and Rich Eisen.
  • A moment of silence was held at the Indianapolis Colts-Cincinnati Bengals playoff game on Sunday, January 4, 2015, as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers-Dallas Mavericks basketball game.
  • Scott often used pop culture and hip-hop culture to make connections to the sports world.
  • Scott passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015.
