With participation in Peer Facilitation, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Link Crew, tutoring, and athletic training, it came as no surprise the Northmont Rotary Club selected senior Jaelynn Gordon as their student of the month for February.

Gordon is extremely active within the community as well, where she volunteers her time for specific charities and helps raise money to help those less fortunate.

“[I’ve done] bagging for tips, which funds many charities, helped out in the house of bread, serving homeless people, and we’ve washed cars to raise charity money,” said Gordon.

Gordon received her award on Tuesday, February 9, at Good Samaritan North.

“My mom is my biggest inspiration because she used to do a lot for my siblings and I. She used to be a doctor, so being able to do the same sorts of things she did is cool,” said Gordon.

Gordon has aspirations of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Her role in athletic training for the girls’ soccer team pushed her towards this career choice.

The 18-year-old touts club participation as a key to involvement as well as searching community or church websites for activities. However, she does warn students to proceed carefully when becoming involved.

“Staying organized and trying to remember every commitment I make are [two of my biggest obstacles],” said Gordon.

Gordon has been working hard to make the Northmont community a better place, and the Rotary Club noticed.
