In August 2021, China tested a hypersonic missile that surprised United States intelligence by surprise. In October 2021, China got the results back on the hypersonic missile. A hypersonic missile is supposed to deliver warheads more quickly and precisely compared to other missiles.

According to U.S News, “The test showed that China had made astounding progress on hypersonic weapons and was far more advanced than US officials realised,” the report said, citing people briefed on the intelligence.

China’s ministry of defence did not immediately respond to a faxed request for comment from Reuters on Sunday.

Reuters said it had test-fired a newly-developed hypersonic missile. 

CBS News also stated that Hypersonic rockets travel at least five times the speed of sound, and they can fly much lower to the ground than conventional ballistic missiles. That makes them much harder to trace, and thus much harder to stop.

The last time the world saw China’s arsenal of hypersonic missiles was in 2019, as the Communist Party put its latest technology on display in a huge military parade through central Beijing’s Tiananmen Square.
