Fall’s Varsity Sports Come to an End

With the winter sports teams about to take off, here’s a look at how all varsity fall teams did this season.
Boys golf:
The boys golf team finished the regular season with a 4-15 record, placing them fifth in conference. In the post-season competition, the boys placed ninth overall. Through the season, the team faced tough opponents such as Centerville, who went on to win the GWOC Central division and the GWOC Conference. Junior Luke Knapke was given special mention for his regular season and post-season performance.
Girls golf:
The girls golf team finished with a 10-5 overall record, going 4-1 in conference matches, and placed second overall in conference. In the post-season, the girls team finished in sixth place as a team. They were led by senior Rebecca Krizner who shot a 97. Three of the teams losses came to Centerville, who went on to win GWOC and GWOC Central division, Troy, who went on to win the GWOC North division, and Springboro, who went on to win the GWOC South division. Krizner was named first team all-division and juniors Shelby Hunter, Sarah Advakov, Britney Hansard, Blake Johnson, and Emma Saltsman were named second team all-division.
Boys soccer:
After a rough 4-5 start at the beginning of the season, the boys varsity soccer team turned the second half of their season around to finish with an overall record of 9-9. Through the season, they faced, and defeated, many tough opponents such as Wayne and Chaminade Julienne. Among those tough opponents were teams such as Centerville, Beavercreek and Cincinnati La Salle. Although they couldn’t win every game, the boys went deep into the postseason, making it to the third round. After losing to them 4-0 during the regular season, the boys got a rematch against Fairmont high school in the first round of the playoffs. Making the most of this chance, the boys defeated Fairmont 4-2. In the second round, they team faced off against fourth seed Lebanon and won 7-2. In district finals, the boys went down in a thrilling, heartbreaking game to Butler 2-0. Seniors Blake Treherne and Ian Fleming were named first team all-division, junior Mason Reidy was named second team all-division, and senior Nick Latessa and junior Chris Okos were given special mention.
Girls soccer:
The girls varsity soccer team still managed to pull a 5-6-5 record after losing many starting varsity players this year. The girls started the season off in great fashion, ending in a 1-1 tie with rival Carroll. After that, the girls beat West Carrollton 12-0 then tied Troy, Springboro, Piqua, and Sidney all 0-0 before beating Fairmont high school 1-0. In the games remaining after that, the girls won 3 games and lost 6. Juniors Hannah Cloud and Kyleigh Denson were named first team all-division, juniors Rachel Collopy and Brittany Weatherford were named second team all-divison, and senior Stephanie Max and sophomore Mackenzie Stefanoff were given special mention.
Boys Cross country:
Senior JT Mackay and junior Zac Garver had quite an impressive season, going all the way to State. Mackay, who was also the Penn Station Athlete of the Month in October, finished 5th and Garver finished 10th in the Regional Cross Country meet, which qualified them for the State cross country meet where Mackay finished 11th and Garver finished 61st. Mackay and Garver also received first team all-conference and first team all-division while senior Tanner Garrison was named second team all-division.
Girls Cross Country:
In the conference meet, the girls team finished in eighth place overall. In this race, freshman Jordan Rife finished in 34th overall and junior Kimea Lawrence finished in 41st overall, followed by junior Clara Leedy in 43rd and freshman Aubrey Kosak in 45th. The girls finished with a final score of 221, falling just behind seventh place Butler.
Football:
The football team finished with an overall record of 4-6 this season and 2-3 in conference.d. Even though they had a disappointing record, the team still defeated conference rival Beavercreek in the Homecoming game 41-26. The football team also defeated Piqua and Springfield by a large margin. The team faced top-ranked opponents this season though, with losses against Centerville (ranked 7th in Ohio and 72nd in the nation), Hilliard Darby, Lakota East, Springboro (ranked 17th in Ohio and 200th in the nation), Wayne (ranked 9th in Ohio and 93rd in the nation), and Fairmont.
Girls tennis:
The girls tennis team finished with an overall record of 17-3. Their only losses were to Beavercreek, Springboro, and Chaminade Julienne. They had major wins over Centerville and Troy. This was a big improvement after going 9-10 overall last season. The girls went 4-1 in conference during the regular season, taking their only loss to conference winners Beavercreek. Junior Akilah Parker was named first team all-conference and first team all-division, and received the ‘Athlete of the Year’ award. Sophomore Marissa Anderson and senior Hailey Weaver were named second team all-division and junior Kennedy Harden was given special mention.
Girls volleyball:
The girls volleyball team finished with a final record of of 13-9 in the regular season and advanced to the second round of the playoffs, where they lost in a 5 set thriller to Miamisburg. In the regular season, the girls faced Miamisburg and defeated them in a 5 set match. The girls faced tough opponents such as Troy (who later went on to win the GWOC North division), Centerville (who went on to win the GWOC Central division), and Lebanon (who went on to win the GWOC South division). Seniors Kennedey Schmidt and Sasha Sampson were named to first team all-division and senior Eva Stebel was named to second team all-division.
