The 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards were held on January 9, 2022, at 9 pm and the award ceremony was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California. However, this year, the Golden Globes were not broadcast on live television. Instead, the winners were tweeted out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the hotel was devoid of any stars. NBC dropped their broadcast of the Golden Globes, after revelations of the Globe’s lack of diversity in winners and nominees. Journalists have boycotted the Globes and NBC  joined this list in May, as reported by Variety.

The New York Times reports that since these scandals broke out, the HFPA has announced a new set of rules and admitted 21 new members, including journalists of color. It remains to be seen if Hollywood will acknowledge the ceremony, or if the stars that won the awards will acknowledge it as well. The Golden Globes might be the first award show to be the victim of a major “snub” by celebrities and Hollywood itself.
