Around 4- 6 inches of snow fell on January 22, resulting in US Highway 35  closing on January 24, due to the freezing temperatures. It later reopened the same day.

More snow was expected to fall on Wednesday, January 25. A winter storm warning is set for that day. This is due to the snow that would be added to the already present snow. On January 24, a couple of inches did fall, giving the majority of schools in the Dayton area a snow day. However, with the temperatures being around 40˚, the frozen precipitation melted away, as ice tends to do when the temperature rises.

The disappointed students at home were hoping for at least a foot of snow. The question is: what did the students and staff do with their day off? In an interview to find out, Northmont High School student Rhys White said he baked a german chocolate cake. Mr. Puterbagh, a teacher for a couple of classes at Northmont says that he cleaned up around the house and organized furniture. Another student, Solo Stamper says she read a little and watched movies during her snow day. The weather has continued to bring shivers to Ohio residents. With a high of 46 and a low of 15 degrees through the next 6 days is predicted by whio.com. No snow is expected and the 46 and 42 degrees on Saturday and Sunday will most likely melt the snow. To some people’s dismay and others’ delight Saturday night, almost all the snow melted away by the rain. With the weather in flux, the following week is already for cold temperatures again.

Although it will be hard when exactly Northmont next snow day will take place, it’s interesting to know what the students and staff did with their time off.
