In the early afternoon of September 5th, fans of the Katmai National park and Preserve in bear cam live stream spotted a hiker mouthing the words “lost” and “help me”. The camera in which the man was caught on was set up for viewers could simply go to explore.org and watch the bears near Dumpling mountain. The man came into frame around 3:15 P.M. but stream moderators did not seem to notice until around 3:40. “THERE IS A MAN ASKING FOR HELP ON DUMPLING CAM,” one viewer wrote in the stream chat. In the video of the man, he appears very cold and wet, as if he has been in this situation for a while.
Luckily, the hiker was smart enough to stay near the site of the camera in which he was spotted by the viewers. After hours of searching, the park rangers finally found the lost hiker around the area of the “Dumpling cam”. A park ranger named Fitz, in an interview with USA Today said he can “fully understand how somebody could have lost their way in the mountain in that situation.”. Fitz goes on to talk more about the rescue of the man, “We couldn’t see him the whole entire time, like the three hours in between when we first saw him and when the rangers got there.”. It was later shared that the man was within about 100 yards of the camera in which he was spotted.
According to the lost hiker (whose name was not revealed in any interviews), he had been lost in the Alaskan mountains for only a few hours. What made this man’s situation even more terrifying was the fact that he was lost in the foggy mountains with bears at every turn for several hours. Video of the lost hiker on live stream.
