On monday, September 18th 2023, Joby Aviation Inc announced to the public that they were going to build flying cars in Dayton. Joby has planned to build an aircraft production operation around Dayton International Airport where the “flying cars” will be assembled. Up to about 325 million dollars of the 500 million that has been saved for the project, is from the state and local incentives.
In an interview with Dayton Daily news on September 8th 2023, JoeBen Bevirt, Joby’s founder and chief executive, said, “Our goal is to bring flight to people’s daily lives. The Wright Brothers had the dream of flight more than 120 years ago, and they created that in Dayton. We’re so excited to build on the incredible aviation legacy that Dayton has.”
Joby’s goal is to build a factory capable of delivering up to 500 aircraft per year. The average salary of a worker in one of the new factories is around 70,000 dollars a year. Joby plans to also use this project to build on its partnerships with Delta Airlines and Uber.
