Late at night this past Sunday (September 17th) nine teenagers escaped from Abraxas Academy, a juvenile detention center in Pennsylvania, and were captured early on Monday.
In a news conference posted to YouTube by ABC7 on September 18th, Pennsylvania State Trooper David Beohm talked about how the nine teens escaped Sunday night saying that it was not a riot, like some sources originally believed, but the nine teens overpowered two female security guards to take the keys.
The nine teens remained free the entirety of Sunday night and were not captured all at once the next day. Beohm stated in the news conference from ABC7 that, “We had four of them, around quarter till six (Monday) morning, go to a house on Oak Grove road. Basically banged on the door, they were done, they were tired, they were cold. We went there, took them into custody” (September 18).
In the ABC7 video Beohm then talked about how they captured the other five teens. He said that they got a call around 45 minutes later about a report of a stolen vehicle. Police engaged in a pursuit of the vehicle before they got it stopped and were able to take four of the remaining five escapees into custody. Beohm said that the last teen ran into a field but was taken into custody soon after (September 18).
In the same video, posted to YouTube on September 18th by ABC7, Beohm responded to questions saying that none of the teens actively resisted arrest and they will all be charged with escape as well as any other crimes they committed while out of the detention center.
