At approximately 11:30 p.m on April 5th, 3 Farmington police officers were responding to a domestic violence call, Daniel Estrada, Dylan Goodluck , and Waylon Wasson.
They reported to the wrong house and proceeded to announce themselves and knock on the Dotson family’s door. As they were walking away Robert Dotson opened the door armed, which caused police to open fire.
Following the event, Robert’s wife came downstairs, saw him on the ground, grabbed the weapon and proceeded to fire outside the door. The police officers then opened fire on her but luckily she wasn’t shot.
Both the wife and her kids were taken into questioning.
This became an ongoing case where the Dotson family was seeking justice.
On September 15th, the Dotson family filed a lawsuit against Daniel, Dylan, and Waylon for unspecified reasons. The lawsuit includes what was said to investigators by the police when they were brought in.
According to Cheri Mossburg at CNN “ The officers handcuffed and detained Kimberly Dotson and her two children and ‘did not disclose to investigators that they were at the wrong address,’ the lawsuit says.” (September 15).
The lawsuit also included and alleged that the police officers used unnecessary force.
According to Meredith Deliso at ABC news “ The lawsuit alleges that the city failed to properly train the officers in use of force, and that the three officers “acted unreasonably” and “applied excessive, unnecessary force.” It also alleges they deprived Dotson, a father of two, of his state constitutional rights, including the right to enjoy life and liberty.” (September 15).
With no charges the three police officers, Daniel Estrada, Dylan Goodluck, and Waylon Wasson continue to work at the Farmington Police force.
