On Sunday, December 2nd, there was a 2 hour standoff with the Huber Heights police force and SWAT Team resulting in an arrest of one suspect. According to the WHIO Staff, in an article they say that, “The suspect was placed in the back of a SWAT truck, and law enforcement entered the home on Schoolgate Drive. Police have not said what prompted this standoff. News Center 7 crews arrived on scene after 9 p.m., and saw dozens of law enforcement agents, including a SWAT team, stationed on Schoolgate Drive and Shull Road” (December 3rd). The suspect was put in the SWAT truck just after 11 p.m. according to the article
According to Carlos Mathis in a WDTN article it says that,“According to The Huber Heights Police Division, officers were dispatched at 6:47 p.m. Sunday to the 6100 block of Shull Road on a domestic violence call”(December 4th). After the police arrived, they made contact with a person thought to be needing help. The suspect was also in the house, however he refused to leave. Due to the suspect’s resilience, the police called in the Regional Emergency Response Team (RERT) to help in the situation. This resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
Teresa Griffith, a resident of the area, told WHIO that when her grandson called her on her way home from Columbus, he said, “Hey, don’t up Shaw (Road), there’s a big standoff. The roads are all blocked off,” she told WHIO’s Malik Patterson. She asked her grandson what was going on, he responded, “I have no idea. All we know is the cops showed up, they were using the bullhorn and SWAT showed up” (WHIO Staff, December 4th).
