While many musicians get the spotlight in the media, there are a large majority of artists that don’t get their chance. Open Boundaries, an EDM artist who makes songs about mental health and depression, began releasing music in February of 2023. Their debut song was Masks – Extended Message Bound Mix which was released on February 10, 2023 and laid the foundation for the future releases. Open Boundaries has released many short videos with different snippets of their extended message bound mixes, which often tease what the extended mix is going to sound like.
Open Boundaries has released 6 officially named songs that include: Masks, Darkness, Snap, NEROUK, Changes, and Disconnect. Each song has an extended message bound mix and a special club mix. In an interview with Open Boundaries conducted by me, they had many different things to say when asked several questions.
1. What inspired you to start making music?
“I started when I was really young, like…13/14, I’ve always loved it, and the way I can create something that expresses what I can’t express socially. “
2. What is your favorite of all the songs you’ve made?
“I still to this day love Masks but with each song I write, it’s…different, as it’s based on my emotion and feelings at that time, so depending on my headspace at the current time my favorite might change.”
3. Do the different masks have different names?
“The masks all represent something human, a feeling/emotion, rather than a name, hence the different colors, but the newest mask is almost like a combination of all 3, a unified thought.“
4. Why did you choose the name Open Boundaries?
“Because my boundaries will always remain open, meaning I will always speak my own truths and not put up any walls. The whole purpose is to remove any barriers about speaking one’s state of mind.”
5. If you had a message to add to the article, what would it be?
“As long as you remain open, you will never find yourself walking alone, for there will always be someone, somewhere in the world whose life is parallel to yours. Even if you never see or hear them, take peace in the thought that another is facing the challenges of life alongside you.”
With a smaller following than many musicians, Open Boundaries has managed to stay very close to fans through the entire process, even making several group chats asking for feedback with fans. During the release of Disconnect, Open Boundaries released many snippets and sneak peeks, even releasing a stripped version of the song for the first time.
According to Iamopenboundaries.com, “The artist remains anonymous for the purposes of being all inclusive to every person out there, there is no connection to any country or any background with all the focus being on the music and the lyrics, rather than the person behind it.”
