On Sunday February 4th Taylor Swift announced a new album set to come out on April 19th and then won album of the year for the fourth time, making Grammy history.
Lauryn Overhultz for Fox News wrote that Swift announced her new album, titled “The Tortured Poets Department”, after winning the best pop vocal album award for her album “Midnights” at the Grammys on the night of February 4th (February 4th).
Overhultz writes in the aforementioned article that after receiving this award Swift explained that this was her 13th Grammy and that 13 was her favorite number. Overhultz quotes Swift as she writes, “(Swift) explained that she wanted to celebrate by ‘telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the past two years’ (February 4th).
In this same Fox News article Lauryn Overhultx explains that Taylor Swift made her Instagram profile picture black and white prior to the awards show. Overhultz describes this as a potential hint to her fans of the new album before she announced it, given that Swift is known to put out “‘Easter eggs’” for her fans to try to figure out (February 4th).
Swift’s new album was not the only news surrounding her after the Grammys, she was also able to make history that night as well.
In an article posted to CNN, Alli Rosenbloom writes about Swift winning album of the year for “Midnights” saying, “Prior to her win of the coveted award, Swift was tied with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon, who along with her all previously won album of the year three times. She took home golden gramophones for album of the year in 2009 for ‘Fearless,’ 2015, for ‘1989’, and 2021 for ‘Folklore’” (February 5th).
After winning the award Swift is quoted by Rosenbloom in this same CNN article saying, “‘For me the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy’” (CNN, February 5th).
