On April 26 and April 27th Cargill Meat Solutions produced over 16,000 pounds of raw ground beef products and shipped them to Walmart stores across the United States. However, a recall notice was put out from the USDA on May 1st about this shipment of meat having possible E. coli contamination. The meat was pulled off the shelves and no illness due to the possible contaminated meat have been reported.
According to Samantha Delouya at CNN, “In total, there are six meat products that could be contaminated, including products labeled “93% Lean 7% Fat All-Natural Lean Ground Beef” and “Prime Rib Beef Steak Burgers Patties,” the USDA said” (May 2nd)
In a statement from a spokesperson at Cargill Meat Solution, he says the products were recalled out of an abundance of caution. Once the recall notice came out to the public Walmart stores immediately pulled the meat from the stores and notified customers who possibly purchased the products.
According to Samantha Delouya at CNN, “At Walmart, the health and safety of our customers is always a top priority, a Walmart spokesperson told CNN in a statement. As soon as we were notified of the recall, we immediately removed impacted products and informed customers who may have purchased these products” (May 2nd).
Walmart customers who have purchased affected products should throw them away immediately or return them to the Walmart store they were purchased. Additionally, customers can call the number 1-884-419-1574 if they have any questions about the recall.
As of May 5th, no illnesses have been reported.
