On Friday, September 6th, in the morning, alleged school-shooter Colt Gray, along with his father, Colin Gray, made their first appearance in court in the state of Georgia after the shooting events on Wednesday, September 4th.
During their court appearance, both individuals were charged with criminal counts in connection to the shooting at Apalachee High School on Wednesday. According to Jon Haworth and Emily Shapiro in an ABC News article, “Colt Gray is charged with four counts of felony murder for allegedly shooting and killing two teachers and two students” (Haworth, Shapiro, Sept, 6th). The article goes on to state that Colt could be tried as an adult in connection to the school shooting.
Colin Gray, age 54, father of the alleged shooter, was arrested by authorities on Thursday, September 5th, and was charged in the same courtroom as his son Friday morning. In the same ABC News article, Haworth and Shapiro report that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation state that “charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children” (Haworth, Shapiro, Sept, 6th).
The school shooting at Apalachee High School resulted in the deaths of four individuals including two students and two teachers. In an article on ABC News, it details that one of the teachers killed was Richard Aspinwall, a math teacher and football coach. The article interviews a student from the school, Reyna, age 17, who states that “her class heard banging on the lockers right outside of the classroom door. (Cohen, Shapiro, Sept. 5).
While no trial date has been set for either the father or the shooter, more information will be made available soon.
