NHL players, Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, had their funeral at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church on September 9TH. Sean Monaghan, as well as many other NHL players came to their teammates’ funeral to commemorate and honor them. The brothers sadly ended up passing away from a car crash located on the roads of New Jersey due to a drunk driver on August 29th.
Both of the brothers’ widows gave tearful tributes and eulogies to their husbands during their funerals. During Johnny’s wife, Meredith’s, eulogy, she received that she is in her ninth week of her pregnancy with the couple’s third child.
According to Meredith Gaudreau in an PhillyVoice article ,
“ I’m in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby“ (Tanenbaum, Sept. 9th). Meredith tearfully stated during her eulogy. She mentions how she had already talked about her pregnancy with Johnny Gaudreau. “ . . . But his reaction was just immediately kissing me and hugging me. “ Meredith talks about how her husband and his brother had an unbreakable bond with each-other.
Meredith thanked Johnny for all of the love that he had given her and their children during their marriage. She even explained how appreciative she was for the time they spent together while his brother and him were in the Calgary
Along with this, Matthew Gaudreau’s widow, Madeline, announced her pregnancy during her eulogy. Located in a CNN article, “ I feel numb, angry, sad, and blessed all at once“ (Close, Sept. 10th). Madeline exclaimed in tears about how her life had been affected due to this tragedy and how it feels like she’s in a ‘ nightmare ‘ that she can’t wake up from.
Both widows shared condolences for each-other, even expressing how they are grateful to have each-other in this tragedy. “ There is only one person in the world who knows what i am feeling, it’s you. “ Madeline spoke during her eulogy, her words directed towards Meredith. Meredith and Madeline label their pregnancies as a gift, being grateful to have someone each-other that understands what one and other are going through during their tough time together. Madeline urges everyone at the funeral not to drink in drive due to the likelihood of an accident like this happening ever again.
” I urge everyone to never drink and drive, ” Urged Madeline, ” Call a ride. Please do not put another family through this torture. The loss of Matty and John will leave a hole in the family, with his close friends, the community for eternity. “
Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Gaudreau will always be remembered as loving brothers, husbands, and fathers who put their family above their favorite sport and put his love ones first before anything else. According to an ESPN article, other churches in the local area began to offer their prayers and shared their condolences to the brothers and the Gaudreau family.
