Amanda Overstreet’s hands and head was found on January 12th but were identified on Friday, October 11th. According to Fox News “people were cleaning out a Grand Junction, Colorado, home, located nearly 200 miles west of Denver, when they discovered a human head and hands inside a freezer”(Greg Wehner, Oct 15th). Amanda Leariel Oversreet was a 16 year old girl who was last seen nearly 20 years ago, but on January, 12 she was found with her head and hands in a deep freezer.

Mesa County Sheriffs Office said officers were called to a home on the 2,900 block of Pinyon Ave at around 2:30pm about a suspicious behavior. When deputies arrived the person at the scene told the deputies that they were cleaning out the recently sold house when they discovered what they believed to be a bag of human remains.

On Thursday, October 10th, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed that an autopsy was preformed a day before and confirmed that the remains were human hands as well as a human head, but at the time they were not able to identify whose remains they belonged to, until the next day when the Coroner’s Office announced that via DNA testing they identified the victim as Amanda Overstreet.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said that they believe Overstreet was around 16 years old when she disappeared in 2005.

The house she disappeared in previously belonged to her biological mother Leanne Imer. Since then the house has changed ownership multiple times until the most recent owner sold it.

The sheriff’s office said there is no record of Amanda ever being reported as missing. According to Fox News investigators have been in contact with the previous owners.
