On January 16th, the Northmont Drama Club will perform two One-Act shows that are student directed by Danikah Skaroupka and Rhys White. Danikah will be directing Selfie, a show about high school students preparing for their future while facing adversities they’ve never seen before. According to the Northmont Drama Club website, Selfie is summarized by “It’s senior year and problems are mounting for a group of high school students as they prepare for the future. Facing bullies, parents, pressure, sickness, and their own self-judgment, the characters search for ways to stand out. As they document their year, one click at a time, they come to realize life is not about what other people see — it’s about the pictures they have of themselves.” Auditions for the show will be November 4th, with the cast list being announced on November 5th. In an interview, Danikah had these things to say:
Question: Why did you choose to direct this show?
Answer: I think that Selfie’s message is so important for high schoolers to hear today, so I wanted to direct Selfie to allow more people to see that high schoolers go through many different things, and even though it may feel like it sometimes, you not alone in your journey.
Question: Is there anything specifically about this show that you find to be meaningful to you directly?
Answer: Like I stated in my past response, Selfie follows a bunch of high schoolers through their journey and shows the different issues that high schoolers encounter, so as a senior this year, I personally have seen or personally dealt with some of the issues that selfie highlights, which makes this show even more meaningful to me.
Question: What is your target audience and what do you want them to take from the production?
Answer: I think that it would benefit the whole student body at Northmont to see, because the message is just so beautiful. There is the exception of content warning surrounding eating disorders.
Question: Finally, is there anything else you want to have said?
Answer: No. Come see Selfie!
10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse, directed by Rhys White, is summarized by Playscripts.com as “It’s the end of the world and hordes of rampaging zombies are about to kill you. What do you do? Try your hand at kung fu against the undead? Attempt to reason with creatures that would rather eat brains than use them? Turn to this handy and hilarious guide to survive the apocalypse! (Hint: sacrifice the weak is step number one.)” Auditions for 10 Ways to Survive the zombie Apocalypse will take place at the same place and time as Selfie.
