Last week, Leilani Simon, a Georgia mother, was found guilty of murdering her 20 month year old son and dumping him in a land fill two years ago, along with a series of other charges.
One morning in October 2022, the mother reported her son missing and claiming that she last saw him in their playpen. Weeks later, police found Quinton’s body in a landfill.
On Friday, a jury found Leilani Simon guilty of all 19 charges against her for the murder of her son, Quinton Simon. These charges include, malice murder, felony murder, secreting the death of another, and making false statements.
The jury had heard eight days of jury testimony, deliberating for two hours on a Thursday afternoon before breaking for the day. Jurors resumed their deliberations at 9:30 Friday, releasing their unanimous verdict at 2:30 that same day.
In the CNN article, Jenny Parker, the Chatham County Assistant District Attorney stated, “It was a ‘complex case’ to prosecute because the state lacked some evidence seen as key to any murder trial – including an autopsy of the victim and a cause and manner of death.” (Andone and Ebrahimji, October 28th)
Parker also stated, “But the law enforcement agencies involved did such a good job investigating this case, and we did our best presenting the evidence that they had.” ( Andone and Ebrahimji, October 28th)
In the opening statement, it was said to not prove how she killed her son, but simply that she had.
Simon faces up to life in prison without parole, and her sentencing is set to take place at a later date.
