On Friday, November 1st, a 17-year-old suspect allegedly shot and killed 2 people and injured several more at a Halloween nightlife in Orlando, Florida. Police officers responded to the scene after reports of shots being fired around 1 a.m. Friday. Police state that within minutes of being there, they witnessed a second shooting. In an ABC.news article Jon Haworth states, “One person was killed at the first scene and the second victim was killed at the second scene, police said” (Haworth, Nov.4).

It was stated that the suspect walked by multiple police officers before opening fire. Surveillance video then captures people fleeing the scene as officers apprehended the suspect.
ABC.News states, “Nine people, aged 18 to 39, were injured, some critically, police said” (Haworth, Nov.4). Andy Rose and Ashley R. Williams in the CNN article further explain, “Two of the six surviving victims were admitted to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition but are now listed as stable, hospital spokesperson Marlei Martinez told CNN Friday morning” (Rose,Williams, Nov.1).
A woman was hospitalized after being trampled as bystanders desperately ran from the scene.
In the same article, CNN states that on Friday, November 1st, a student attending University of Central Florida was also amongst those who were killed in the shooting.
Police are further more investigating what could have been the motive for the shooting. As of right not the motive is still unknown, but police have made a statement stating, “Did he know him? Did he just happen to stumble across somebody who is one of his enemies for whatever reason? That’s all part of the case” (Rose, Williams, Nov.1).

After the incident took place, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer made a statement about gun control. The statement further says, “It’s unfortunate that the changes in the state concealed weapons laws [in 2023] have made it even easier for people to carry guns” (Haworth, Nov.4).
