As of Tuesday, December 10th, after the fall of the Assad regime, Israel hit Syria with 480 attacks and even seized some territory.
According to Mick Krever from CNN, “The Israeli military on Tuesday said it had carried out about 480 strikes across the country over the past two days, hitting most of Syria’s strategic weapon stockpiles, while Defense Minister Israel Katz said the Israeli navy had destroyed the Syrian fleet overnight, hailing the operation as ‘a great success’,” (Dec. 10th, 2024).
In terms of where the strikes hit, Mick Krever from the same CNN article said, “Of the 480 strikes carried out by the Israeli Air Force, about 350 were manned aircraft strikes targeting airfields, anti-aircraft batteries, missiles, drones, fighter jets, tanks and weapon production sites in Damascus, Homs, Tartus, Latakia and Palmyra, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. The rest of the strikes were in support of ground operations that targeted weapons depots, military structures, launchers and firing positions”(Dec. 10th, 2024).
Israel’s view of this attack has a bolder approach, as according to the same CNN article:
“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had hailed the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime as ‘a new and dramatic chapter’. The collapse of the Syrian regime is a direct result of the severe blows with which we have struck Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran,he said during a rare press conference Monday, ‘The axis has not yet disappeared but as I promised – we are changing the face of the Middle East’,”(Dec. 10th, 2024).
Other countries views on the attack question Israel and spread worrisome through the Middle East. According to Freddie Clayton from NBC News, “Saudi Arabia said the actions ‘confirm Israel’s continued violations of the principles of international law’, and called upon the international community to respect Syria’s ‘territorial integrity.’ Iran also condemned the Israeli military’s movements, describing them as a violation of the U.N. Charter and calling for immediate action from the U.N. Security Council. Clayton also added, “And U.S. NATO ally Turkey said Israel was ‘once against displaying its occupying mentality,’ condemning its actions while Syria strives for ‘peace and stability’,”(Dec. 10th, 2024).
