Thomas Dickey, a defense attorney representing Luigi Mangione, the suspect in killing the UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, said that he saw no evidence in linking Mangione to the killing.
In an ABC News article, Dickey stated, “‘I have not been made aware of any evidence that links the gun that was found on his person to the crime so these are things that we’re looking to see'” (Katersky, Shapiro, and Shalvey, December 11th).
Mangione was arrested and charged on Monday, December 9th, in Pennsylvania for possessing an untraceable ” ghost gun.”
Luigi plans to challenge his expulsion from Pennsylvania to New York, where he is facing charges of a second degree murder, in relation to Thompsons death.
According to an article from The Hill, “In Pennsylvania, he was charged with five crimes, unrelated to the shooting. They included forgery, carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with records or identification, possessing instruments of a crime and false identification to law enforcement.” (Irwin, December 11th).
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has said that they will seek a governor’s warrant to try and force Luigi’s extradition. Kathy Hochul, who said that she’ll sign a request for a governor’s warrant, also said in a statement that she wants to ” ensure that this individual is tried and held accountable” (Katersky, Shapiro, and Shalvey, December 11th).
In New York, Dickey said that he anticipates that Luigi will plead not guilty for the second degree murder charges.
