Former President Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, passed away at the age of 100 on December, 29th, 2024. Jimmy died on a Sunday, around 22 months after being put into hospice care at his residence in the town of Plains, Georgia, The Carter Center wrote in a NBS NEWS article. It also mentions in that AP article that Biden cited Carter’s work to eradicate disease, forge peace, advance civil and human rights, promote free and fair elections and house the homeless as an example for others.

Joe Biden declared that he would order an official state funeral to be held in Washington and issued a proclamation later on Sunday, declaring January 9th would be a national day of mourning.

On Monday that following week, the U.S. Army District of Washington wrote that ‘ Monday morning that the state funeral would be held on that same date, ‘ and Biden ordered federal offices closed ” as a mark of respect ” for the 39th president, written in a NBC NEWS article about Jimmy’s death.
