A Dayton man is in custody in Indiana after trying to drive his car off a tow truck to escape police following a single car crash along Interstate 65 near Rensselaer, Indiana.
Indiana State Troopers were called to a single vehicle crash southbound I-65 on the night of Friday January 10th. When police arrived they determined the person involved was 52 year old Carlos D. Sept and had crashed his 2008 Toyota Camry into a ditch near milepost 206. When police arrived they determined that a tow truck was needed to remove the vehicle. While talking with Sept they learned he had lied about his identity and was wanted for a probation violation.
Police would attempt to arrest him but he was not cooperative and ran across all lanes of I-65 and into a nearby field. Troopers were ready to chase after him with K-9 units but he would run back across the Interstate. Sept then attempted to drive his car off the tow truck. Sept would fail to drive the car off the truck and would hand himself over to police (WHIO staff, Jan 12).
The trooper’s K-9 alerted that Sept was in possession of marijuana and allegedly heroin.
According to WDTN Sept was taken to the Jasper County Jail and is facing charges for possession of a controlled substance, intimidation, which are both felonies. He is also facing misdemeanor charges for false identity statement, resisting law enforcement, and possession of marijuana. The probation violations in Ohio are non-extraditable according to authorities (Hanson, Jan 12).
