Pope Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Friday, February 14th after being diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.
On February 26th, The Holy See Press Office announced that “The Pope’s health condition had significantly improved over the previous 24 hours” (Feb 27, Vatican News). The Jubilee Audience that was scheduled for March 1st has been canceled due to the father’s condition.
The Jubilee Audience is a day where the current pope highlights a time for new beginnings and is rooted in the transformative power of God’s Kingdom. The Jubilee Audience was also the day that Pope Francis was inaugurated.

The Press Office also said that the fathers mild kidney insufficiency that was noticed in recent days has subsided. A chest CT scan that was carried out on Tuesday night showed a normal progression of lung immflamuation. Blood tests that were taken on Wednesday confirmed the improvement that was seen. Pope Francis no longer needs “non-invasive mechanical ventilation” according to The Holy See.
The pope has been dedicating his afternoons to working. On Sunday the father spent his day participating in holy mass with those who helped him during his time in the hospital and alternating between rest and prayer.
On Friday February 28th, Pope Francis had an isolated bronchospasm that seems to have shown no direct consequences. Due to the complexity of the pope’s condition, his prognosis has remained private. There is still a risk of the popes condition deteriorating. The father has been hospitalized with difficulty breathing as well as kidney issues since February 14th
