The Secret Service shot at an armed man near the White House on Sunday, March 9th, shortly after midnight. On Saturday, the local police reported a “suicidal individual” traveling from Indiana to Washington, the agency said. Shortly after, Secret Service personnel found the individual’s vehicle and the person with the matched description.
According to a ABC article written by , and ‘As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm, and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel,'” Secret Service Chief of communications, Anthony Guglielmi shared on X (Clayton, Dienst, and Oberg, March 9th).

This incident occurred just outside of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, just a block from the White House. The officer confronted the man as he had the gun pointed towards him, ignoring commands to drop the weapon as he then pointed it in the direction of the Secret Service agents and officers. The officers then fired an unknown number of shots. An additional weapon was found inside the individuals car, according to DC Metropolitan police.
The person was taken to the hospital shortly after the incident, and his conditions remain unknown. The U.S. Secret Service said that there were no injuries to their own personnel.
