Acting IRS Commissioner Melanie Krause is resigning after a deal with the Department of Homeland Security to provide data on undocumented immigrants to support the Trump Administration’s effort to deport undocumented immigrants.
According to ABC News, a Treasury Department spokesperson has confirmed Krause’s plans to leave the agency.
“Melanie Krause has been leading the IRS through a time of extraordinary change. As we focus on IT modernization and re-organize the agency to better serve the taxpayer, we are also in the midst of breaking down data silos that for too long have stood in the way of identifying waste, fraud, and abuse and bringing criminals to justice. We believe these goals are critical to a more efficient government and safer country. We wish Melanie well on her next endeavor,” said the Treasury Department spokesperson (Siegel, April 9th).

The Treasury Department said that Krause will continue to work until at least May 15th.
According to CBS News, Krause could leave as soon as April 28th. Along with Krause, Kathleen Walters, the IRS chief privacy officer, Teresa Hunter, IRS chief financial officer, and Mike Wetklow, IRS chief risk officer, are also departing the agency.
According to Krause’s LinkedIn profile, she previously worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as Assistant Inspector General until 2021. She started at the IRS as Chief Data and Analytics Officers.
