Jaylin Paschal, Editor-in-Chief

It’s hard to believe that after four years–roughly 720 days–my time in Northmont’s journalism program is coming to a close. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every moment I’ve served as a staff writer for the T-Bolt Tribune and as the Editor-in-Chief of the Surge. I am appreciative of all that I’ve been able to learn from this program, and all of the space I’ve had to grow as a writer, an editor, and a student.

To Ms. Chrissy Galaise and Ms. Missy McMonigle, thank you for laying the foundation. Thank you for teaching me that constructive criticism is necessary, and for constantly encouraging me to “go for it.”

To Ms. Rachel Brannon, thank you for providing us with this platform for expression, conversation, and growth. Thank you for allowing us to take issues head on, and encouraging us to understand controversy rather than shy away from it. Thank you for showing me what it means to stand up for what you believe in. Thank you for allowing your room to be my safe space, and for always being there when I needed you. You have been the most influential figure of my high school experience. I will always genuinely appreciate the opportunities, encouragement, and guidance.

To D.J. Hudson, thank you for your passion and your enthusiasm. The dynamic of the journalism program was heavily reliant on the energy you brought into the newsroom every single day for four years. I have learned so much from you about positivity, dedication, and friendship. It has truly been a pleasure, and I hope we will have many opportunities to work and write together in the future.

To Rylie Richard, I’ve had so much fun getting to know you and I’m very excited to see what the future has in store for you.

To Taylor Harmon, I know you will do a fantastic job as editor next year. Thank you for all of your hard work and awesome coverage.

To Autumn Jenkins, I don’t have a single doubt that you will be fantastic in your role on the editorial staff. Your hard work, attention to detail, and enthusiasm has proven that you’ll do great things in, with, and for the journalism program.
To the journalism staff, I hope you all continue to grow as the Media Arts program does. I know you all will do amazing things for Surge and beyond, and I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with! I’m confident that you all will continue to push boundaries, produce excellent content, and challenge the status quo. I hope you guys find your voice as a collective and individuals, and most of all, I hope you all have fun.
