On February 12, 2017, the 59th Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles (eonline).

Adele took home five grammys: Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Pop Vocal Album. She performed “Fastlove” in memoriam of the singer George Michael, and restarted her performance after not feeling she was doing a good enough job (CNN).

Junior Tiera Jew said her favorite performance at the Grammys was Adele’s George Michael performance, in which she comments that it took a lot for Adele to stop in the middle of her performance to restart, and the second time around, Adele sounded great.

The Weekend, Bruno Mars, Beyonce, and Ed Sheeran also performed at the Grammys.

Senior Emily Roach thought the Bee Gees tribute by Little Big Town, Tori Kelly, Andra Day, and Demi Lovato was phenomenal.

David Bowie won five awards, according to grammy.com: Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, Best Alternative Music Album, Best Recording Package, and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical).

Meanwhile, Twenty One Pilots won one out of the three awards they were nominated for. They won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song Stressed Out. Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph (the two members of the group), took off their pants before accepting their award (usatoday.com).

Roach mentioned that she was most excited about Twenty One Pilots winning an award.

Senior Ryan Loveless, a  Twenty One Pilots fan, watched the Grammys as well, and was happy they won an award, but believes they should have beat David Bowie for Best Rock Performance.

The Grammys features eighty-four award categories that artists are nominated for each year.
