As Northmont’s 2017-2018 school year comes to an end, chorus teacher Ms. Anna King and orchestra teacher Mr. Ryan Chatterton are holding a cappella auditions for next year. The auditions will take place on Thursday, May 3, and Friday, May 4, starting at 4 pm.

“We are looking for students that have great solos and can really sell it,” said King. “We aren’t looking for a set number of members, just depends on who shows up and makes it.”

Students are auditioning to be either Impulse or Catalyst. Impulse is the junior varsity team and Catalyst is the varsity team for the high school.

“I hope to make Catalyst this year or at least have a solo song,” said freshman Bailey Means, who did a cappella all through middle school and freshman year.

Those who are interested in auditioning must prepare a song to perform in front of King and Chatterton. If they get a call back later, they will be given a sheet of music to learn in a week. Then they must perform that with small group of other students auditioning.

“The first time is scary and I was nervous, but after the first time it feels fine,” said sophomore Daniel Jenkins, a member of Catalyst.

Even previous members must audition for a spot on the team.

“I think people should try out for a cappella because it’s a lot of fun and you get to be around people who enjoy music like you,” said junior Christionna Surratt.

For students interested in joining Impulse or Catalyst, they can sign up for an audition time on the sign-up sheet located outside the chorchestra room.
