The Rising Cases of Missing Indigenous Women

A List of Names of Indigenous Women That Have Gone Missing in the US and Why.

Sav Sparks, Staff Writer

Indigenous women have been going missing at alarming rates they have been going unnoticed for years. In 2016, 5,712 Native American women and girls were reported missing, only 116 cases were noticed by the U.S. Department of Justice’s federal missing person database, NamUs. According to the CDC, “The third-leading cause of death among American Indian and Alaska Native women and that rates of violence on reservations can be up to ten times higher than the national average… However, no research has been done on rates of such violence among American Indian and Alaska Native women living in urban areas despite the fact that approximately 71% of American Indian and Alaska Natives live in urban areas.”

Indigenous women deserve protection against being targeted for their race and gender identity. The pictures below are a few of the 100,000’s missing indigenous women’s cases, none of the women/girls have been recovered and sent home. Their families wonder every day if they will come home or not. It’s important we remember these women and girls, their stories, and their families that still want them to come home.
