Lions Defeat the Vikings 29-27, Finally Wins a Game

This past Sunday, the Detroit Lions won their first game of the season. They took down the Minnesota Vikings in a close 29-27. They started the game down 6 after the first quarter. After a great second quarter, they went into the lock room at halftime up 20-6. then the score going into the 4th quarter was 23-15. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins threw 2 touchdown passes in the 4th quarter, one to K.J. Osborn that was 5 yards, and one 3 yard touchdown pass to Justin Jefferson with 1:50 remaining. Both times they scored they attempted to for a 2-point conversion, and both times they failed making the score 27-23 Vikings lead.

With 110 seconds left, the Lions had to march down the field and score with no timeouts. On a 3rd and 10 at Detroit’s 30 yard line, quarterback Jared Goff completes a pass to running back Godwin Igwebuike for 13 yards resulting in a first down. Later that drive, on a 3rd and 1, the Lions got called for delay of game making it 3rd and 6, and Goff completed a pass to tight end T.J. Hockenson for 10 yards. And just like that the Lions are at the Vikings 19 yard line with 12 seconds to go.

On first down, Jared Goff spiked the ball to stop the clock, making it 2nd and 10. Goff completed a short pass to wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown for 8 yards. Minnesota called timeout with 8 seconds go with the Lions on the Vikings 11 yard line. Jared Goff then thrown an incompletion on 3rd down making it 4th & 2 with 4 seconds. Then, as the clock ends the game, Goff connects with Amon-Ra St. Brown for a touchdown! A thrilling way to get the first win of the season.
