As the Academy Awards approaches, the Academy has announced its nominations for the best movies and actors of 2021. The nominations were announced on February 8 and the awards ceremony is to be held on March 27, at Dolby Theater. The following are the nominations for all the categories that the Academy hands out.

For Best Supporting Actress, the Academy nominated Jessie Buckley, for her work in The Lost Daughter, Ariana Debose, for her work in West Side Story, Judi Dench, for her work in Belfast, Kirsten Dunst, for her work in The Power of the Dog, and Anujanue Ellis, for her work in King Richard. For Best Costume Design, the Academy has nominated Cruella, Cyrano, Dune, Nightmare Alley, and West Side Story. For Best Sound, the nominees are Belfast, Dune, No Time to Die, The Power of the Dog, and West Side Story. For Best Original Score, the nominees are Don’t Look Up, Dune, Encanto, Parallel Mothers, and the Power of the Dog.

For the Best Adapted Screenplay, the nominees are Coda, Drive My Car, Dune, The Lost Daughter, and The Power of the Dog. For the Best Original Screenplay, the nominees are Belfast, Don’t Look Up, Licorice Pizza, King Richard, and The Worst Person in the World. The nominees for the Best Animated Short are Affairs of the Art, Bestia, Boxballet, Robin Robin, and the Windshield Wiper. The Best Live Action Short nominees are Ala Kachuu- Take and Run, The Dress, The Long Goodbye, On My Mind, and Please Hold.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actor are Ciaran Hinds for Belfast, Troy Kotsur for Coda, Jesse Plemons for The Power of the Dog, JK Simmons for Being the Ricardos, and Kodi Smit-McPhee for The Power of the Dog. For Best Film Editing, the nominees are Don’t Look Up, Dune, King Richard, The Power of the Dog, and tick, tick, BOOM!. For Best Makeup and Hairstyling, the nominees are Coming 2 America, Cruella, Dune, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and House of Gucci. The Best Animated Feature nominees are Encanto, Flee, Luca, The Mitchells vs the Machines, and Raya and the Last Dragon.

The Best Documentary Feature nominees are Ascension, Attica, Flee, Summer of Soul, and Writing with Fire. The Best Documentary Short nominees are Audible, Lead Me Home, The Queen of Basketball, Three Songs for Benazir, and When We Were Bullies. The Best Original Song nominees are Be Alive from King Richard, Dos Orugitas from Encanto, Down to Joy from Belfast, No Time to Die from No Time to Die, and Somehow You Do from Four Good Days. The Best Cinematography nominees are Dune, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and West Side Story. The Best International Feature nominees are Drive My Car, Flee, The Hand of God, Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom, and The Worst Person in the World. The Best Production Design nominees are Dune, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and West Side Story.

The Best Visual Effects nominees are Dune, Free Guy, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, No Time to Die, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Best Actress nominees are Jessica Chastain for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Oliva Colman for The Lost Daughter, Penelope Cruz for Parallel Mothers, Nicole Kidman for Being the Ricardos, and Kristen Stewart for Spencer. The Best Actor nominees are Javier Bardem for Being the Ricardos, Benedict Cumberbatch for The Power of the Dog, Andrew Garfield for tick, tick, BOOM!, Will Smith for King Richard and Denzel Washington for The Tragedy of Macbeth. The nominees for Best Director are Kenneth Branagh for Belfast, Ryûsuke Hamaguchi for Drive My Car, Paul Thomas Anderson for Licorice Pizza, Jane Campion for The Power of the Dog and Steven Spielberg for West Side Story. And finally, the nominees for Best Picture are Belfast, Coda, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, Dune, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog, and West Side Story.
