The Jayhawks Make an Amazing Comeback Against the Tar Heels to win the National Championship

The Kansas Jayhawks got to the Title game by defeating the Villanova Wildcats in the Final Four game. They won 81-65 behind their senior forward David McCormack’s 25 points and 9 rebounds. It was an 11 point lead for Kansas going into the half. They then broke away in the second half outscoring Villanova 41-36 in the second. Jayhawks senior guard Ochai Agbaji also contributed with 21 points. Villanova’s senior guard Collin Gillespie had a solid game, finishing his college career with 17 points but it wasn’t enough to get the job done. (all information/stats can be found here)

The North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the heavy favorite Duke Blue Devils in their Final Four game to advance to the title game. Majority of sports fans across the country wanted to see former Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski (Coach K) win one more national title before he retired as the greatest college basketball coach of all time, but he and the Blue Devils fell 2 wins short. This was an absolute dogfight, lead changes back and forth, but a dagger three pointer from UNC sophomore guard Caleb Love sealed the win for North Carolina 81-77. Caleb Love finished the game with 28 points and 4 rebounds. UNC junior center Armando Bacot had an outstanding game, finishing with 11 points and a staggering 21 rebounds. For Duke, freshmen forward Paolo Banchero finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Paolo Bancero is projected to be a top 3 pick in this years 2022 NBA draft. (information can be found here)

Now the stage is set, North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Kansas Jayhawks. North Carolina was the 8th seed, they took down the defending champs 1 seed Baylor Bears in the Sweet Sixteen. The Jawhakws were a 1 seed. North Carolina came out hot, taking a demanding 40-25 lead into halftime. Then at the start of the second half, everything went downhill for the Tar Heels. The Jayhawks came back from 15  points and outscored UNC 47-29 and they took home the win 72-69. UNC guards Caleb Love and R.J. Davis struggled all game, Caleb Love had 13 points on 24 shots and R.J. Davis scored 15 on 17 shots taken. Kansas had 5 players in double-figures this game, as McCormack’s led the way again with 15 points and 10 rebounds as Kansas won their 3rd National Championship in school history.
