Netflix’s new documentary ‘Dahmer’ takes place in both Bath, Ohio and Milwaukee, Wisconsin between 1978 and 1991. It consists of showing viewers the early upbringing and lifestyle of Jeffery Dahmer, known as The Milwaukee Monster.

Jeffery Lionel Dahmer was born May 21, 1960 and died on November 28, 1994 while serving time in Columbia Correctional Institution located in Portage, Wisconsin. He was beaten to death with a weight bar by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver who also killed Jesse Anderson directly after.

At an early age Jeffery showed interest in dead animals, what they looked like dead, what they looked like inside, even how they tasted. It started small with finding roadkill and bringing it home to later escalating to actually killing the animals so he could dissect them.

Both home and school life was not easy for Jeff, with both of his parents having marital issues for majority of his life it led to Jeff isolating himself and becoming an outcast to the public. By age 14 he was drinking hard alcohol regularly then by age of 17 his parents split and was left alone in his childhood home, where he would later commit his first murder almost a year later.

In Jeffery’s lifetime he would confess to murdering 17 men and young boys between 1978 and 1991, only to be federally convicted for 16 of them. According to the Irish Mirror, Dahmer stated he wanted to “control them” and “possess them permanently”.

He said he never murdered anyone out of anger or because he hated them, but instead because he found them beautiful and wanted them to be a part of him, which was his excuse for later resorting to cannablism.

Evan Peters’ performance is “absolutely terrifying yet outstanding” , says Twitter user @jsncckll1. Peters has received nothing but exceptional reviews for his role of Jeffery Dahmer. He said it was “One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do” and that he was “scared” to play this notorious serial killer, according to Daily Mail.

Peters is best known for his long term commitment to the popular series American Horror Story, directed by Ryan Murphy. In which he stars in each season leading up to it’s most recent season that ended in 2021. Murphy announced AHS: NYC will be the series 11th season however, Peters will not be present.

Reviews of ‘Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story’ has recieved mixed opinions by the public as a whole. With some of the victims family coming forward saying they were not informed of the series being made and how it has brought on past trauma they have never wished to relive.

During Jeff’s trial in 1992, one of his victims sisters-Rita Isbell- gave a testimony in relation to her brothers murder. This specific part of the trial is reenacted in the documentary by DaShawn Barnes. According to Eric Isbell, a cousin of the family, he tweeted “I’m not telling anyone what to watch, I know true crime media is huge[right now], but if you’re actually curious about the victims, my family are pissed about this show. It’s retraumatizing over and over again, and for what? How many movies/shows/documentaries do we need?”

He then continued in another tweet, “no, they don’t notify the family when they do this. It’s all public records, so they don’t have to notify(or pay!) anyone” he said he and his family found out about the show “like everyone else did”

Netflix has not made any comments on the families concerns and feelings in regards the show as of now.
