Major Northwest Snow Storm Knocks Out Power To Over 250,000 People

Tuesday March, 14, 2023 a major snow storm hit many parts of the northwest, dumping several feet of snow, causing the power to be knock out to over 250,000 customers.

According to Phil Helsel of NBC News, “Many in New England woke up to neighborhoods blanketed in white Wednesday morning with 3 feet of snow recorded in Moriah, Stony Creek and Palenville, New York, as well as in Marlboro, Vermont, and Colrain, Massachusetts.” Many strong winds ere recorded within the storm with 71 mph being the highest in Frenchboro, Maine. Followed by the second top winds being 62 mph in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

It was reported by NBC News that Phil Scott, the Vermont Governor stated Tuesday March 14, 2023, “This isn’t over,”. He continued with, “We have some concerns about what the high winds are going to bring and more snow to other parts of the state. A lot of power outages in the southern part.”

According to The National Weather Service, there was more than 20 inches of snow in Rutland County, Vermont, by 10 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

It was warned on Tuesday afternoon that there would possibly be 6 to 12 more inches of snow into Wednesday. Boston forecasters also announced there would possibly be 1 to 3 more itches overnight into Wednesday.

NBC News stated that, “Nearly 200,000 customers were still without power in New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine as of early Wednesday, according to the tracking website PowerOutage.us. The utility National Grid said heavy, wet snow and winds caused widespread damage to its systems.” There were more than 700 flights canceled in and out of Newmarket Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, LaGuardia Airport in New York, and Logan International Airport in Boston.
