The MVP award is the most prestigious individual award in almost every sport, and the race for the NBA MVP award is still ongoing unlike the other major league sports in America. In basketball it’s almost time for it to be announced and there are ten nominations so let’s look at them.

So first we are going over the previous back to back NBA MVP, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets. First off he averages a triple double which is unreal, 24.5 points,11.8 rebounds, and 10 assists in only 33.8 minutes per game on average. And comparing his other two MVP seasons his averages don’t seem too different. In the 2020-2021 season he averaged 26.4 PPG, 10.8 boards, and 8.3 assists. Then the 2021- 2022 season, he had 27.1 PPG, 13.8 boards, and 7.9 assists.

Secondly  Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers . He has averaged the most PPG(points per game) in the league with 33.1 per game, 10.2 rebounds, and  4.2 assists in 34.6 minutes per game

Now in third place to win it, Giannas Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks. He averaged  31.1 points per game, 11.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game while getting only 32.1 minutes per game. And looking back at Giannas back to back MVP seasons and like Jokic, averages   Giannas barely changed, with the 2018-2019 season 27.7 PPG, 12.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists. In the 2019-2020 season, Giannas averaged 39.5 PPG, 13.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game in the 2021-2022 season.

Fourth place is Jayson Tautum of the Boston Celtics he averaged 30.1 PPG, 8.8 rebounds and 4.6 assist per game. He has improved since last year with 26.9 PPG, 4.4 assist and 8 rebound per game.

Fifth is James Harden, the second and final 76er on this list. He averaged a solid double double a game with 21 PPG, 6.2 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game. He basically played the same last year too with 22 PPG, 10.5 assist and 7.1 rebounds a game.

Sixth place is Domantas Sabonis who plays for the Sacramento Kings. He had on average 19.1 PPG, 12.3 rebounds and 7.3 assist per game this year. He improved a little since last year too, getting 18.9 PPG, 5.2 assist, and 12.1 rebounds a game.

Seventh place on the list is Luka Doncic on the Dallas Mavericks. He had an average of 32.4 PPG, 8.6 rebounds and 8 assists a game. He really only improved in scoring since last year but he still had solid numbers with 28.4 PPG, 9.1 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game.

Eighth place is Shai Gilgious-Alexander who plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He averaged 31.4 PPG, 4.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists a game. He improved majorly with his scoring with only getting 24.5 PPG last year but everything else is basically the same with 5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists a game

Ninth place is Damien lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers. He averaged 32.2 PPG, 4.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists a game. Like SGA (Shai Gilgious- Alexander) Dame only really improved with his scoring getting 24 points last year with 7.3 assists and 4.1 rebounds. It makes sense how he didn’t score much last year with him missing so many games and only playing a total of 29 regular season games for the Trail Blazers.

Tenth is Jimmy Butler on the Miami Heat. This year he had 22.9 PPG, 5.9 rebounds and 5.3 assists. Not really improving by much from last season with 21.4 PPG, 5.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists.

That’s all ten nominees for the NBA MVP award and with the regular season being over it’s probably already over for some of the nominees that didn’t make the playoffs because it could sway some voters in the other direction when it comes to playoff activity.
