A jury in federal court in Manhattan, New York, announced their verdict in the case made against former president Donald Trump by writer E. Jean Carroll whose accusations say that Trump had sexually assaulted her in a dressing room in the spring of 1996. The jury ruled that he was guilty on two counts (on battery, and libel – for denying the accusations made on Truth Social in October of 2022. The jury ordered him to pay $5m in damages for “sexual abuse” and for defaming Carroll by accusing her of “a made-up SCAM” for political ends according to pbs.

Donald Trump’s lawyers called no witnesses, and he never attended the trial to hear Carroll, who had sued him last year, give testimony about the attack she said had “ended her romantic life forever”.

According to cnn, Carroll made a statement after the trial, “I filed this lawsuit against Donald Trump to clear my name and to get my life back. Today, the world finally knows the truth. This victory is not just for me but for every woman who has suffered because she was not believed.”

Politico claims, it’s unanimous verdict came after just under three hours of deliberation. The findings are civil, not criminal, meaning Mr. Trump has not been convicted of any crime and faces no prison time since May 9, 2023.

In the upcoming months it is certain that things will be getting a lot harder for Donald Trump. Many pending charges including some of the ones for inciting the capitol riot in January 2021. Many of the key witnesses against Trump in these cases will be his fellow Republicans. Norman Eisen, a former White House special counsel for ethics and government reform, said that as a result Trump’s legal troubles have only just begun. “He’s running into a buzzsaw and it’s called the rule of law. So he can go on and rant and rave up to a point but the legal authorities are in the process of holding him accountable,” he said.
