Police major Jason Hall says in a WDTN article that they got the call about reported fighting on Labor Day weekend at 2:15 am on Aug 31st. They were sent to the 400 block of E.Fifth street in the Oregon District by the salad restaurant and lounge as well as by a tattoo shop named ‘Rebel’.
When the officers arrived at the scene they reportedly tried to break up a crowd that had formed. Dayton police say that more had fighting occurred while they were there. The authorities claim the area had begun to grow “increasingly agitated” as they had attempted to make arrests which prompted the call for county wide backup.“As officers were apprehending violent individuals the surrounding crowd became increasingly agitated which prompted a Signal 99 to request available officers to respond,” said major Hall in a WDTN article.
This is not the first time this has happened this year. When reporting on the story WHIO said “That this is the fourth time in the last 6 months that officers in the Oregon District had to call for signal 99 back up.” The officers were eventually able to break up the fight and canceled the county wide backup request. According to Jason Hall a 28 year 0ld and a 27 year old were arrested and charged with resisting arrest as well as disorderly conduct. Body cam footage of one of the officers from that night has been released into the public domain and will be linked in the article.
