An awesome trend for fall is patterned or print pants, which are bright, fun, and totally cute. Because patterned pants stand out so much, the best color top to wear with them is just a solid neutral color. Also, because patterned pants aren’t jeans, you can wear a denim vest with them. Finding the right denim vest can be hard though and expensive. But, why buy it when you can DIY it?

Go to a thrift store and find an oversized denim shirt or jacket.  You can also see if anyone you know has one they don’t mind getting rid of. Once you have your denim shirt or jacket, lay it out on a table. Take scissors and cut the sleeves off. You want to cut them all the way to the top where the shoulders are at the seams.

The next part is optional if you want to create pockets on the vest: Cut off the bottoms of the sleeves. You only want to cut to where the wrist is. Then take the material you cut off and fold the bottom of it under. Sew it so the bottom of the pocket is closed off. When you are done, go ahead and place the pockets where you want them to be. Then, sew them on. If you don’t know how to sew you can use fabric tape or double-sided tape, but it won’t stay as well.

When you’re done, you have a perfect vest (with or without pockets) that you can wear anytime of the year.
