On Friday, January 4, an Instagram account by the name @World_Record_Egg posted a photo of an egg with the caption, “Let’s set the world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram.” The post broke the record on Monday, January 14.

The previous record was set by Kylie Jenner, founder of Kylie Cosmetics, in February of 2018; the post was the first picture and the announcement of the name of her first daughter. Jenner responded to the egg passing her record by posting a video of her frying an egg on hot pavement with the caption, “Take that little egg.”

The record of most Instagram likes has pasted from celebrity to celebrity over the years. Here are some past record holders (Guinness World Records).:

• Will Smith and Justin Bieber in 2014: 1.5 million likes
• Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West’s wedding photo in 2014: 2.4 million likes
• Kendall Jenner in 2015: 3.5 million likes
• Beyoncé Knowles-Carter’s pregnancy announcement in 2017: 7.3 million
  • This record being surpassed by the youngest Kardashian/Jenner, with 18 million likes

The egg picture has accumulated over 47 million likes as of Thursday, January 17 and has started on circulating on Twitter in hopes of becoming the most retweeted photo.
