Sunday, November 30, the City of Union had their annual tree lighting ceremony.

Right before they lit up the tree, police officers blocked off the streets so that people were not crowded on the street corners. Everyone counted down from 10 and then they lit the tree.

The firehouse also held pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Santa rode into Union on one of Union’s very own firetrucks.

“I attended the lighting ceremony once back in elementary school. It was really nice to see everyone come out. They even had hot chocolate and cookies. I also think that it is nice to have a community tree lighting ceremony,” said senior Haley VanLeeuwen.

Temperatures were mild, so people were not freezing outside. However, at the same time, it almost felt a little too warm to be lighting a Christmas tree.

“I enjoyed getting to watch them light the tree. It was my first time attending the tree lighting,” said senior Derrick Butler.

The City of Englewood also has their Christmas tree up on the corner of National and Main Street.
