On Saturday, February 8, a house fire was reported in Clinton, Mississippi. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but officials say that it is suspected to be foul play. A family of eight was in the house. The mother and six children unfortunately didn’t make it, but the father survived with a few cuts and burns.

According to CNN, “The father, who suffered smoke inhalation, cuts and burns, initially refused to be taken away by medics out of concern for his family.”

The cause for the rest of the family being unable to escape seems to be due to the houses old age.

According to BBC, “The house in Clinton, some 10 miles (16km) from the state capital, Jackson, had been built around 1951. Burglar bars could be seen in some windows, which could have prevented the family from escaping.”

Five of the children were found in one bedroom while the mother and one other child were found in another.

According to NY Times, “The father tried to save his family and actually went in and told them to follow him. He was going to lead them outside, and when he got to the door and outside, the children were not with him.”

The City of Clinton asked for prayers for the father and for the community to wrap each other in prayers and kindness as they all grieved together.
