Our forefathers’ vision for America today was that Americans would live in peace and that the flag we salute would represent a state of freedom where all nationalities are welcome. They envisioned a country where our rights and equality mattered, so that when we recited the Pledge of Allegiance, we would feel a wave of pride wash over us knowing that we lived in the “land of the free.” Instead, we live in a country where social equality is non-existent and our human ethics and rights are being deprived. The freedom that our forefathers have fought so hard for is being stripped away. That is why America today is not our forefathers’ vision. Let us examine the U.S. Constitution to explain why.
The U.S. Constitution
In 1787, the Constitution of the United States was established to ensure our rights and create structure to protect American citizens. Every human is entitled to inalienable rights. This signifies that we, as citizens of America, have the right to pursue the basic necessities and essentials we need to survive in life. Everyone should be entitled to health care, education, and employment; however, the government interferes with our rights, making it difficult to obtain a stable lifestyle and provide for our families. So, how does the government interfere with our inalienable rights?
The Education System
First, let us discuss education. The average American family falls in the line between poverty and the middle class. A private school is afforded a better opportunity to a better education versus the public school. The private school has the financial resources to obtain a better education. On the other hand, the public school has fundraisers to provide school books. The state government is responsible for providing funds to education itself. So, why is there a financial disparity between funding the private school and the public school?
The High Cost Of Living Low Wages
Employment also has negative impacts. The minimum wage does not keep up with the cost of living. The cost of living steadily increases while the minimum wage stays the same. An average person making an income of 30,000-50,000 a year lives paycheck to paycheck. After their bills are all paid off, they are left struggling to make ends meet. Additionally, health care consistently increases and makes it hard for citizens to get the proper help they need.
Project 2025
The final blow to the American people is the mere possibility of Project 2025 being approved. Project 2025 is trying to dismantle the constitution and will lead to the downfall of the American dream. What the constitution has accomplished for the American people today will perish along with our civil rights and our freedom and the government will yet again fail to protect this nation. Finally, every time we recite the pledge of allegiance we will bend the truth of this country and the freedom the land is founded on.
Today, America is not our forefathers’ vision. Our forefathers’ vision is that the United States Constitution becomes a living document that is the supreme law of the land, establishes the structure of our government, and serves as the principles for a relationship between government and its citizens. For the land of the free should be founded on principles, and in God we trust who will not fail us.
