The movie Snow White is about a beautiful princess, Snow White who is targeted to be killed by her evil stepmother, the Evil Queen due to he being jealous the Snow White is according to the magic mirror “the fairest of them all”. However, the huntsman who was ordered to kill her and bring back her hurt took pity on her and urged her to run away into the woods and brought back a cow’s heart to the queen, Snow white then came across and took refuge in the 7 dwarfs cottage. Upon learning that Snow White was still alive, the Evil Queen disguises as an old peddler and tricks Snow White into eating a poisoned apple, putting her in a death induced sleep. The dwarfs place her in a glass coffin and eventually, a prince, who has fallen for her breaks the spell with a kiss. Personally I believe the old Snow White movie is better then the live action adaption and believe the movie never needed a remake.

I guess my first critique of the live action movie is that the main focus isn’t about true love. A good majority of traditional fairytales are about finding true love including Snow White, but nowadays this is something a majority of modern stories steer away from. I know there’s more to films than just romance but it’s pretty annoying when every Disney live-action remake focuses on anything but true love. Though Snow White is awoken from her death sleep due to true love’s kiss in the remake, that’s only a minor part of the whole story. Snow White never wished to find true love in the remake and the fact that it was never mentioned beforehand that true love could break the Evil Queens curse is kinda baffling considering that played a huge role in Snow White and The 7 Dwarfs charm.

My second critique has to do with the 7 dwarfs. The dwarfs have always been one of more memorable things about Snow White, as they provided comedy and each dwarf was easy to love in their own individual ways due their personalities. Though in the remake Disney vouched their designs by going the CGI route. The results were a bit uncomfortable and those once charming dwarfs were not so charming anymore.

My third and final critique was how the remake portrayed the relationship between Snow and Grumpy. In the original movie. Grumpy, the crankiest of the dwarfs, had been against Snow white staying with them and she knew that she would even pray that he would start to like her. However she started noticing these heartwarming moments where Grumpy revealed his true feelings. He loved Snow White, which made her death while she was baking him a pie much more sadder. While they do have a similar relationship in the remake it wasn’t as in depth as it was in the original movie. “Grumpy never nervously prepared himself for Snow White’s kiss, and the princess never made her new friend a pie”(Shaw March 23rd, Screen Rant). The instead focused on the relationship between Snow and Dopey. Still nice, but not the same.
