Trump announced on Tuesday,October 21,2025 in Washington D.C. that he may seek compensation from the U.S Justice Department for past federal investigations.
He believed that the federal government doesn’t treat him fairly and states that “It’s awfully strange to make a decision where I’m paying myself. In other words, did you ever have one of those cases where you have to decide how much you’re paying yourself in damages?”(Maher,CNN,October 21,2025). This means he knows it’s very strange and he possibly is the only one who would decide how much money he’s going to spend on suing the Department of Justice.

Trump is trying to prove that because of all the legal cases circulating around, he believes the government owes him a large amount of $230 million in damages. It’s very unusual for a president to seek money from the government. “As far as all of the litigation, everything that’s going to go, yeah they probably owe me a lot of money.” Trump stated when asked about a report that he’s filed administrative reports seeking $230 million in damages from the Justice Department (Darah Gregorian and Raquel Coronell Uribe, October 21,2025).
Trump acknowledged that the situation was nerve wracking and very awkward, because he is kind of taking legal action against himself. He explained that he doesn’t know how to handle the situation. ”I have a lawsuit that was doing very well, and when I became president, I said, “I’m sort of suing myself. I don’t know, how do you settle the lawsuit, I’ll say give me X dollars, and I don’t know what to do with the lawsuit,” Trump said. “It sort of looks bad, I’m suing myself, right? (Mallin,Barr, and Faulders, ABC News, October 21, 2025),
