On a Sunday morning in November 2nd 2025, A woman in Mississippi shot and killed a rogue monkey that escaped from a truck crash. The truck originally carried monkeys from a biomedical research support organization in Louisiana until it crashed in Jasper County, Mississippi, on Interstate 59 North of Heidelberg.

On October 28th 2025, A truck in Mississippi, holding plenty of monkeys had a dangerous accident that caused the truck to crash. 8 monkeys escaped the crash, however 5 of the monkeys were found near the crash sight and safely recovered, while 3 of them ran wild. According to NBC news, the driver told deputies that said “The primates posed a threat to humans; that they were aggressive; that they had hepatitis C, herpes and Covid; and that they would require personal protective equipment to handle” (Romero, Mullen, October 28). 1 of the 3 monkeys happened to run away all the way to the backyard of Jessica Bond Ferguson. Jessica’s 16 year old son noticed something moving in the backyard, chasing their dog, and told his mom about something that was chasing their dog, she immediately took action and got out of bed and grabbed her firearm. Before she went outside she called the police and told them to keep an eye on the monkey, and that she was worried that the monkey would threaten other children if it got away outside. Then, she stepped outside and shot the monkey.
In an interview on AP news from Jessica Bond Ferguson says “I shot at it and it just stood there, and I shot again, and he backed up and that’s when he fell.” (Schneider, November 3). According to Fox News, Jessica Bond Ferguson said “I did what any other mother would do to protect her children,” (Sorace, November 3) to give us a deeper understanding of her thought process during this. As of now, all 3 monkeys have been found, although the second one found deceased from unknown causes, while the third one was found safe and healthy.
