On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court extended a pause on a judge’s order that would have required President Trump’s administration to provide full funding for food assistance to over 42 million low-income Americans during the government shutdown.
The court’s ruling allows the administration to continue holding back roughly $4 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly referred to as SNAP.
In addition, Trump administration, along with a group of nonprofits debated whether or not the Supreme Court should block an order by a federal judge in Rhode Island that would require the government to full fund food-stamps, primarily a federal run program known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
Based on what’s written in an article on NBC News, the case is likely to become moot if the shutdown ends, as the bipartisan bull to reopen the government would fully fund the SNAP program through Sepetmber of next year ( Hurley, Nov, 11, 25 ).
The House of Representatives are expected to vote Wednesday on the Senate-passed measure to end the shutdown, which has now became one of the U.S’s longest.

On Sunday, the USDA, also known as U.S Department of Agruicule, directed states to ‘ immediately undo ‘ the aid already provided to low-income Americans. It remains unclear whether funds already issued by states will be reimbursed by the federal government, where coffers are already running low.
“ To the extent states sent full Snap payment files for November 2025, this was unauthorized,” Patrick Penn, the deputy undersecretary of agriculture, wrote in a to state Snap directors on Saturday, being cited from a article from The Guardian, “ Accordingly, states must immediately undo any steps taken to issue full Snap benefits for November 2025. ” ( Hurley, Nov, 11, 25 ).
