On February 24th, 47th President Donald John Trump issued his state of the union address, covering such topics as immigration, the economy, and the tariffs. He spoke for around two hours, making it the longest in recent history.
As the speech began, Democratic Rep. Al Green was escorted out for holding a sign that read, “Black People Aren’t Apes!” Green was censured by this fellow congresspeople last year for yelling at President Trump during his address.

“We’re going to be doing better and better,” Trump said, according to CBS News. “This is the golden age of America” (Watson, Feb. 24).
Trump also said, according to CBS News, “Last year, the murder rate saw its single largest decline in recorded history. This is the biggest decline, think of it, in recorded history — the lowest number in over 125 years.” In a study by the Council on Criminal Justice found that the homicide rate would likely drop to the lowest record dating back to 1900.
During his speech President Trump said, according to CBS News, “In four long years, the last administration got less than $1 trillion in new investment in the United States. And when I say less, substantially less. In 12 months, I secured commitments for more than $18 trillion, pouring in from all over the globe” (Navarro, Feb. 25). According to Trump’s own website, the administration pulled in 9.6 trillion dollars in investment into the country.
Trump also claimed that gas prices had dropped below 2.30 dollars in most states, but according to AAA, only two states had an average below 2.50 dollars a gallon.
